Water resistance on watches
The characteristic water resistance indicates whether a watch is submersible or not
To know if a watch is submersible or it is not is necessary to know the water resistance or hermeticity of the watch in question. This feature is usually measured according to the atmospheric pressure that the watch expressed in bars, which is the pressure unit, can withstand. When in parentheses we specify the meters or feet in the hermeticity/water resistance of the watches, these data do not refer to the depth of immersion to which they are capable of submerging, but to the atmospheric pressure that was applied within the margin of the test of water impermeability according to ISO 2281 or DIN 8310.
The water classification standards according to ISO 2281 or DIN 8310 can be WR, 3 bars (30 meters/100 feet), 5 bars (50 meters/165 feet), 10 bars (100 meters/330 feet) , 20 bars (200 meters/660 feet) or 30 bars (300 meters/1000 feet).
Water resistance WR means that the watch is waterproof, a brief contact is not problematic. This means that if you suffer some splash of water you can pass a cloth to dry it without the watch stops working. You should avoid any further contact with water.
From a water resistance of 5 bars (50 meters/165 feet) the watch can be exposed to this water pressure so that you can shower with it without any problem.
When the watch has a water resistance or hermeticity of 10 bars (100 meters/330 feet) the model is also suitable for bathing, swimming or snorkeling. You can see all the watches with a hermeticity of 10 bars by following the link watches with 10 bar water resistance.
Finally, from a hermeticity or water resistance of 20 bar (200 meters/660 feet) you can use the watch for free diving of breathing apparatus. You can see all the watches with a hermeticity of 20 bars by following the link submersible watches at a pressure of 20 bar.
If the watch also has a resistance to water of 30 bars (300 meters/1000 feet) it will be a watch with an extreme and unusual tightness perfect for water sports. You can see all the watches with a hermeticity of 30 bars by following the link submersible watches for diving.
Now you can buy your watch through our online shop with the water resistance you prefer depending on how you are going to use it.
